Foster Care: Foster Care for children in the care of Dianjiang Social Welfare Institute began in January 2005. By November of that year, there were over 100 children through foster care, many went on to join their Forever Families. That means individual one-on-one attention for those children in foster families, and more attention by the caregivers for those remaining at the orphanage.

It has been wonderful to see the quarterly reports on children in foster care and to see them change and grow with the love of their foster families.

Current Update: As of May 2008 we have currently 21 sponsorships through Dianjiang Kids International for our Foster Care program with 12 more being added soon.

Last year, 2007, there was a total of 45 children sponsored through the Dianjiang Kids International Foster Care Program, many of these children have now joined their Forever Families.

Stories and pictures of some of the children that have been adopted that were in Foster Care.

Alexis Ai Shi at home
with her family

We adopted our daughter, Jiang Ai Shi in March 2007. We traveled with a large party, taking our two older daughters, grandma and a close family friend along to meet her. From the minute Alexis came to us, she was laughing and cooing to the entire group, as if she had been with us forever. She had all the social skills of a child her age. We were expecting a withdrawn scared child that lacked the social skills because of being in an institution. She far exceeded all our expectations. We didn't realize until about a week later, when we took the disposable cameras that we had sent in her care package to get developed, that she had been with a Foster Family. This totally explained everything. She fit into the family as if she had been there from the start, loves her brothers and sisters and thinks the family dog is her best friend. She is perfect!

Jiang Mei Gui with Foster Mom
Nina Mei Gui home with Mom

We adopted Nina (Jiang Mei Gui) in December 2007.  She was just over 2 years old.  She is our first child and we were a little nervous as to what to expect.  Would she attach?  Would she be delayed – physically and/or mentally?  What type of personality would she have?  We found out a few months before we were to travel to meet her that Nina had been in foster care since she was about 6 months old.  We felt reassured that she was receiving love and the individual attention every child needs during those formative years.

It didn’t take long for us to see the positive effects that foster care had on Nina.  The transition into our lives was almost seamless.  She attached to us quickly (and continues to each day) and she was right on target physically and emotionally.  She is a very caring, helpful, independent, smart, loving and active young girl and we know much of this is because of her foster family.  The care they gave Nina certainly gave her (and us) the advantage she needed to become part of our family with as little disruption as possible.  We are so blessed to be Nina’s parents AND so grateful to her foster family for their part in raising our wonderful little girl.

Maya in Foster Care
Maya at Home with her Dad

"Maya is doing extremely well. She has made being a parent a dream
for both of us."

"Our pediatrician cannot believe how well Maya is doing. He said that she is 100% on target developmentally. He could not stop praising the foster care program."

"We would like to extend a special thank you to those families who have supported the foster care program and especially the family that support Maya. Our daughter is such a happy little treasure, and we are truly blessed."
Regards, Claire and Steve

"Can I echo how marvelous this program is!! Our little daughter was in foster care and at 13 months she is walking, clapping, drinking solely from a sippy cup and doing anything else any of the other little munchkins her age are doing! I really think it's from the individualized attention provided by her foster family, which all babies need.
Thanks!”
